Blackhead Range Mountain

The Blackhead Range The Blackhead Range is made up of the third, fourth, and fifth highest mountains in the Catskills: Black Dome (3890), Blackhead (3840), and Thomas Cole (3840). The Range is located in the northern Caskills (north of hunter mt) in Greene County.	[click for a larger image]
This range is one of the most distinctive in the Catskills. Troop 45 of Coxsackie's Summer camp is called Camp Tri-mount because it sits in the shadow of these three peaks. You can clearly see these mountains from my backyard in Coxsackie. Coxsackie's town sign has a depiction of these three mountains.

0.25	Batavia Kill leanto.
0.90	Trail ends. Left on red-marked Black Dome Range Trail 1.85m to Black Dome Mt. or right 0.6m to parking area at end of Big Hollow Rd.

[BM] Blackhead Mountain Trail (Yellow)
0.00	Summit of Blackhead Mt. at junction with Escarpment Trail. Proceed west along summit.
0.20	Steep descent begins with line views,
0.60	Blackhead-Black Dome col and junction with red Black Dome Range Trail. Ahead to Black Dome Mt. (0.6m) or right to Big Hollow Road (1.7m).

[BD] Black Dome Ranqe Trail (Red) [N2/02] Also known os Blackhead Range Trail.
0.00	Marked trail starts on Elmer Barnum Road at its junction with County Rt. 40. Proceed easterly along Barnum Roacl (driveable for 0.7m with parking at the end).
1.10	Turn left off old road following red markers.
3.55	Summit of Thomas Cole Mt. (3940').
4.30	Summit of Black Dome Mt. (3980'). View to the south.
4.90	Pass yellow Blackhead Mt. Trail. Continue left steeply downgrade.
5.30	Spring.
6.15	Pass yellow Batavia Kill Trail going right to leanto (0.65m),
6.65	Trail turns right after parking area on Big Hollow Road.
7.00	Cross stream.
7.75	Trail ends at junction with blue Escarpment Trail between Burnt Knob and Acra Point,
