Peekamoose Mountain (3847') |
Peekamoose Mt. is the eleventh highest mountain in the Catskills. It
is located just to the south of Table Mt., the 10th highest mountain in the Catskills.
Both mountains are located in the southern Catskills south of the Burroughs Range
and Slide Mt. These mountains see
a lot less hikers then the Cornell-Wittenberg-Slide Trail just because Slide is the
largest mountain in the Catskills. At the beginning of the Peekamoose-Table Trail
there is a nice leanto next to a creek that you can reach by taking the Phoenicia-East
Branch Tr. to the Peekamoose-Table Trail. You can make a nice
overnighter by coming in late Friday night and staying in the leanto. Then on
Saturday you make the hike up to Table and Peekamoose and them come back and leave.
I know because I've done this. The best part was it was the middle of winter with
lots of snow so the scenery was great. The hike was kind of tough but what do you
expect with snow.
