Troop Leadership Positions
Senior Patrol Leader
(SPL)
The Senior Patrol Leader is the head of the troop and it is their responsibility to run
the troop meetings, be present at committee meetings, work with the patrol leaders, and
represent the troop at scouting events such as Camporees and Summer Camp. The Senior
Patrol Leader in Troop 45 is appointed by the Troop Committee and it is them who decide
the criteria that is required to become the leader of the Troop. The Senior Patrol
Leader is not a member of any troop Patrol.
Assistant Senior
Patrol Leader (ASPL)
As the name implies the Asst. Senior Patrol Leader helps out the Senior Patrol Leader.
They should meet the same criteria as the Senior Patrol Leader when it comes to
their appointment to the position. The ASPL represents the Troop in the SPL's
absence and is also responsible for directing the quartermaster, scribe, troop historian,
librarian, and troop guides.
Patrol Leader (PL)
As the head of the patrol the PL is elected by the members of the patrol. It is
their job to represent and lead the patrol, designate duties of the individual members of
the patrol, hold patrol meetings, plan patrol outings, and help with the advancement of
the patrol's members.
Assistant Patrol
Leader (APL)
It is the APL to help the PL in their above duties and to perform them in the PL's
absence. The APL is also elected by the members of the patrol.
Troop Guide
This older scout, at least First Class in rank, is both a leader and "big
brother" to the patrol of new Scouts. The committee will appoint one or
more troop guides to be responsible for the advancement of the new Scouts.
Librarian
The librarian is in charge of all the literature of the Troop specifically the troop's
merit badge books. He is in charge of checking the books in and out and making sure
they are available at all meetings and outings. The librarian is elected by the boys
in the troop.
Troop Historian
The historian is the official photographer of the troop. The are elected by the
scouts to take pictures at all scout outings and keep and maintain the collection of
pictures. The troop pays for all film and processing and if the scout does not have
a camera one will be provided to him by the troop.
Scribe
The scribe is elected by the scouts to be the troop's secretary. He keeps track of
all notes at troop meetings as well as attendance at the meetings and events, dues
payment, and troop advancement.
Quartermaster
Elected by the scouts, the quartermaster is in charge of cataloging the troop's equipment
and making sure all of it is is good condition. He reports to the troop what
equipment is needed and what equipment needs to be repaired. The most important part
of the job is taking care of the troop's many tents.
