| Welcome to Troop #45 1. The Troop. We are made up of one Scoutmaster and many assistant and junior assistant Scoutmasters. The troop is run by the leadership corp. The Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmasters oversee the activities of the troop. They help plan trips and outings, set up times for meetings, and manage finances. The troop is open to any boy who has completed the 5th grade, or is 11 years old, or has earned the Arrow of Light. Boys are allowed to stay in the troop until they are 18 years old. 2. Meetings. During the school year we meet weekly on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm at the Coxsackie Middle School. Meetings run until 8:30 pm. Scouts who wear their complete uniform (see section 4 for details) can stay from 8:30 - 9:00 pm for game time. If school is closed, we do not meet. 3. Dues. Registration is $25 a year. Weekly dues to the troop are $1.00 each week there is a meeting, whether the Scout is present or not. 4. Uniform. The uniform consists of the khaki Scout shirt, Scout neckerchief and slide or bolo, and olive Scout pants (or other pants of the same shade). The uniform is mandatory at all meetings and outings. Any exceptions will be noted before a particular event. 5. Troop News Letter. Is E-mailed after each meeting to the Scouts and Parents. It is our way of letting you know about current and future troop events/activities and advancement. 6. Personal Account. The Scouts share in the profit of any fundraising done by the troop. Example: candy bars are sold for $2 and the troop's profit is $0.50/bar. The troop keeps $0.25 of this and puts $0.25 of this into the Scout's personal account. These accounts are for Scout use only! 7. Courts of Honor. We hold two courts of honor each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The spring court of honor is usually held at Knights of Columbus in Coxsackie. This is a picnic style event. The troop provides the meat and drink; they call parents to bring salads or desserts. In the fall, the court of honor is held at the Knights of Columbus in the building. This is a planned covered dish dinner. Parents provide all the food; they are called and given a choice what to bring. These events are to recognize the hard work the boys have done in the past 4 to 6 months. Patches and badges are presented and pictures of past events are displayed. All family members are invited to attend. 8. Outings. The troop is very active outside regular meetings. We go on many camping trips and hikes. We also participate in canoe trips, swimming, fall and spring camporees, community service projects, summer camp, high adventure trips, and two Courts of Honor per year. 9. Equipment. Each boy is responsible for his own equipment, backpack, clothing, hiking boots, outdoor wear, personal care products, rain gear, flashlights, and other personal items. The troop supplies tents. 10. Transportation. Parents are responsible for bringing their child(ren) to and from the weekly meetings. For outings, parents are responsible for bringing their child(ren) to Coxsackie Elementary School. Whenever possible, transportation from the school to events and home are provided by the Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmasters, or by other parents going on the trip. At times, parents may be asked to help provide transportation to and from events. Under Boy Scouts of America (B.S.A.) Rules, no Boy Scout is allowed to drive each other to or from events or meetings. Policies of Troop # 45 These policies are meant to be guidelines for the registered Scouts of Troop 45, Coxsackie, NY. 1) A boy must be registered with Boy Scouts of America (B.S.A.) And have a valid B.S.A Medical Form on file to participate in Troop 45 activities, from service projects to outings. 2) A boy must participate in at least 70% of troop meetings and 70% of outdoor activities, to be considered an active scout in Troop 45. 3) A Scout must attend all meetings (unless otherwise noted) in full Class A uniform. This consists of the khaki Boy Scout shirt with all appropriate emblems, olive green pants or shorts*, and a neckerchief and slide or bolo. Hats are permitted only if they are B.S.A. If a Scout is not in full uniform, he will not be allowed to participate in the game period from 8:30 - 9:00 pm. New Scouts have one month to obtain a full Class A uniform. *If shorts are worn, the olive/red Boy Scout socks must be worn. 4) Meetings start at 7:00 pm sharp and end at 8:30 pm. No boy is allowed in the meeting building without a Scout leader or an adult (parent/guardian/relative). 5) Boys are to stay in the main meeting area unless they have obtained permission to leave said area. 6) Horseplay will not be tolerated at meetings or an event/activity. A first offense will result in the Scout not being allowed to participate in the game period from 8:30 - 9:00 pm. A second offense will result in a call to the parent/guardian to come and pick up the boy. A third offense will result in a parental meeting with the committee to discuss the child's future involvement with the troop. Subsequent offenses will result in expulsion from the troop for a pre-determined amount of time. 7) A Scout is responsible for obtaining information regarding upcoming events and/or activities. Our regular meeting place is the Coxsackie Middle School cafeteria from 7:00 - 8:30 pm (school clock time). Our alternate meeting place is St. Mary's Church in Coxsackie. Normally we have a 30 minute game period from 8:30 - 9:00 pm, unless we are at St. Mary's. If we are going on a trip, we usually meet at the Coxsackie Middle School parking lot. |
